Ideas Weave Every Narrative with AI.
HERMES isn’t trying to replace the internet. It’s a modernized shortwave radio that enables encrypted, infrastructure-independent communication across continents. But by using cryptography, it collides with 20th-century amateur radio laws, exposing a fierce battle between 21st-century privacy and legacy government control.
The FCC just banned foreign-made robot vacuums, claiming national security. But the real story is about control, not safety. This is a test case for how the U.S. will regulate every IoT device by origin—turning your home into a geopolitical battlefield. Consumers lose choice, pay more, and get no straight answers.
The FCC’s proposed ban on foreign LiDAR-equipped drones frames itself as a national security measure, but it’s protectionism dressed up as patriotism. LiDAR is becoming obsolete as vision-based systems improve, US drone manufacturers already depend on Chinese components, and the ban will leave consumers with worse tech at higher prices while actual supply chain vulnerabilities remain completely unaddressed.
The FCC just eliminated the 39% cap on local TV station ownership, a rule that prevented one company from controlling too many stations. Framed as survival for struggling broadcasters, this deregulation is actually a quiet surrender to Big Tech, and it will accelerate the corporatization of local news. Your evening anchor may soon be reading scripts written in a distant headquarters.
The FCC just removed the last limit on broadcast TV ownership, and while you’re laughing at the ‘dead’ medium, Sinclair and others are buying up local stations — not for viewers, but for the political power that comes with controlling local news. Dismissing local TV as irrelevant is exactly what they want you to do.
AT&T claims it can’t block robocalls without FCC approval. That’s a lie. The real reason is profit: every robocall generates termination fees for the carrier. The FCC excuse is a smokescreen to protect a lucrative revenue stream. Here’s why your phone company doesn’t want to stop the spam.
The FCC just approved a giant space mirror that will reflect sunlight on demand. But the real story isn’t the mirror—it’s that the FCC, a telecom agency, is now the de facto regulator of commercial space activities. This regulatory mismatch sets a dangerous precedent for orbital debris, space traffic, and who controls the sky.
The FCC just banned certain foreign-made robot vacuums under the banner of national security. But the real story isn’t about radio interference — it’s about a regulatory agency being weaponized to sever consumer markets from China. Today it’s your vacuum. Tomorrow, it’s whatever device the government decides you shouldn’t be allowed to buy.
The FCC’s $340k/year subsidy to wire empty buildings in Alaska isn’t a case of corporate fraud – it’s a structural failure of program design. The system was built to reward compliance, not outcomes, turning public funds into permanent corporate annuities with no accountability. The real scandal is that the rules themselves prevent accountability.
The FCC’s approval of Reflect Orbital’s space mirror satellite isn’t just about one shiny object in the sky. It’s a terrifying precedent: the privatization of our last shared frontier, the night sky, for corporate profit. Astronomers warn this is a tragedy of the commons unfolding in orbit, and they’re not being alarmist.
