We are taught that Seal Script is the uniform, standardized font created by Qin Shi Huang. But a Northern Song Dynasty monk used 32 distinct seal scripts—ranging from strokes mimicking mushrooms and weapon hooks to literal bird motifs. This forgotten diversity proves that standardization might make text easy to read, but it makes culture easy to forget.
